The Lahore edition of
the Bridal Couture Week 2014 kicks off on 11th December and among the
list of top designers showcasing will be Tena Durrani presenting her ‘Perenia Progressive’ couture range on Day 1. We dropped in on Tena
for a closer look at the collection in the cooking stages and it was
well worth the visit as the young designer has employed some exquisite
techniques the details of which may escape you on the ramp so we bring
them to you here! Nonetheless the effect of the complex combination
works will emit a stunning effect from the runway.
As with most of her collections this one
too takes its appellation from a flower – ‘Perenia Progressive’ is
inspired by Perennials; a flower that blooms year round, poetically
expressing the nature of the bridals and wedding wear that will grace
the ramp this season. Rich jewel tones and classic pale pastels both
play into the heavily endowed works to offer a sense of completeness for
the different festive occasions that mark traditional weddings.
One of the handcrafted methods that struck us in particular was the intricate use of pure kaamdani to create motifs and patterns rather than the more commonly witnessed spattering of chhan. Meticulously
carved cutwork entwined embellishments are also a prominent feature to
watch out for along with the label’s signature use of colored silk
threadwork to enhance and detail the silver gold handwork. Dense
embroideries adorned with sequin embellishments and deep velvet borders
enriched in gold thread and metallic work form the basis of the opulent
silhouettes.
Construction-wise Tena invokes voluminous
layers in lehngas and farshi gowns, extra long heavy worked sheer net
dupattas, that can also be turned into saris, style the silhouettes.
More contemporary pieces are fashioned with tapered jackets and cholis
along with fun younger styles for Mehndi wear that can be divided and
picked up as separates as well. Most of the runway styles will
immediately be available in studio for custom lighter versions to cater
to different occasions. Take a first look at the collection preview and
stay tuned for the full runway showcase coming soon!
